Electrical Engineering Lead (CAN)

REPORTING TO: ENGINEERING MANAGER

  • Design electrical systems and machine controls
  • Oversees and provides direction to automation technicians, programmers and technical support employees
  • PLC, Motion Control and HMI programing of standalone machines and aluminum tube and can process lines (or equivalent)
  • Hold regular electrical design project reviews with Electrical Engineering Team and compile minutes
  • Design and/or support and Implement a SCADA Data Collection system for all of the Montebello production lines
  • Define and review all project electrical wiring and assembly drawings and electrical BOMs for purchasing
  • Submit and oversee the assembly and wiring of all electrical panels and consoles submitted for inside and/or outside manufacturing
  • Prepare as-built documentation for completed machines and projects
  • Direct and review technical manuals and electrical PLC & HMI troubleshooting guides for all manufactured machines and systems
  • Liaise closely with Manufacturing department to ensure accuracy of prints and efficiency of manufacturing of electrical devices
  • Direct, review and approve automation equipment design and changes
  • Recruit employees, assign and direct their work and provide necessary training to improve their design skills
  • Promote safety and good housekeeping while being proactive in eliminating potential safety hazards and risky behavior
  • Coordinate projects along with Mechanical Engineering Team
  • Communicate with Customers and update them project milestone status and deliverables
  • Travel to all plant, when necessary, for line surveying, service interventions and during start-ups and commissioning of projects


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, member of OIQ (an asset)
  • Siemens and other PLC programming experience
  • Motion control and frequency drives experience
  • 10 years or more in relevant engineering and/or complex automation production line projects

  • Ability to standardize work and training
  • Delegate effectively, by knowing staff’s strengths and weaknesses and to identify necessary training opportunities to the team
  • Complex problem solving and troubleshooting
  • Communication skills required for meetings, interviews, issuing directives and rephrasing technical issues to non-technical audience
